SIX DEGREES OF HELL
The 'scariest movie of 2012' has me really excited. I just hope it doesn't disappoint because that's a pretty big claim to make especially at this early point. But after seeing all of the stills and the trailer I do have faith that this will be great movie even if it doesn't scare the shit out of me.
SIX DEGREES OF HELL is directed by Joe Raffa, written by Harrison Smith and stars Corey Feldman, Jill Whelan, Brian Anthony Wilson, Joe Raffa, David J. Bonner, Brian Gallagher, Nicole Cinaglia, Ashley Sumner and more. Expect an October 2012 release.
Synopsis: Six individuals are caught up in a supernatural perfect storm as an evil lays claim to one of them while threatening to tear apart the soul of a small Pennsylvania town.
REC 3: GENESIS
The original REC was a fantastic movie in my opinion and REC 2 was a great follow up. Hopefully bringing the series out of the apartment building will bring an entirely new angle to it. REC 3: GENESIS is due out in Spain on March 30 2012.
Synopsis: “The original REC crew are back, ready to submit their ensemble cast to another fight for survival against the zombie infection. This time to the backdrop of an original soundtrack. The new chapter will see the film “open up” by using a more traditional cinematographic style. However, the film’s roots have not been forgotten, and viewers will still be immersed in the action watching certain events unfold through the eye of the video camera. The action in REC 3 GENESIS encompasses the events of the first two films and after the sense of claustrophobia previously experienced.
The action now takes place miles away from the original location and partly in broad daylight, giving the film an entirely fresh yet disturbing new reality. The infection has left the building. In a clever twist that draws together the plots of the first two movies, this third part of the saga also works as a decoder to uncover information hidden in the first two films and leaves the door open for the final installment the future, REC 4 Apocalypse.“
TOTAL RECALL
Synopsis: As the nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai vie for supremacy, a factory worker (Farrell) begins to suspect that he's a spy, though he is unaware which side of the fight he's on.
This remake is said to be more faithful to the book "We Can Remember it For You Wholesale" than the original and a lot different to the original film. Len Wiseman is directing. Stars Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel & Bill Nighy. Expect to see it in theatres August 2012.
SILENT HILL: REVELATION 3D
Synopsis: Heather Mason and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn't fully understand, Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by horrific nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she's not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her forever.
I've always been a fan of the Silent Hill games (well most of them) and I thought that the first movie was pretty well done, but it was still a bit disappointing compared to the games. Hopefully this sequel (loosely based on the game Silent Hill 3) can improve on the original, and as long as it's available in 2D I'll be watching it. And Pyramid Head will be making a return.
Stars Sean Bean, Radha Mitchell, Carrie-Anne Moss & Malcolm McDowell. Release in 2012.
WORLD WAR Z
Synopsis: A UN representative, writing a report on the great zombie war, interviews survivors in the wake of World War Z.
Based on the Max Brooks novel World War Z which I haven't yet read but definitely will soon. The novel is essentially a collection of interviews with survivors in the aftermath of the zombie apocalypse. The movie's success will probably depend on how faithful it is to the book, after all I don't think anybody wants to see another generic zombie film.
Stars Bradd Pitt, Eric West & Matthew Fox. Release date is set for December 21 2012.
UNDERWORLD: AWAKENING
Synopsis: When human forces discover the existence of the Vampire and Lycan clans, a war to eradicate both species commences. The vampire warrioress Selene leads the battle against humankind.
The fourth Underworld movie sees the return of Kate Beckinsale as Selene, which is great because she is basically the only reason I would even consider watching this. Also starring Charles Dance, Michale Ealy & Kris Holden-Ried. Hits theatres January 2012.
ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER
Synopsis: President Lincoln's mother is killed by a supernatural creature, which fuels his passion to crush vampires and their slave-owning helpers.
I don't care if this movie ends up being shit, I still want to watch it just to see Honest Abe slaughtering a bunch of vampires. Based on the novel by Seth Grahame-Smith, who also wrote the screenplay. Timur Bekmambetov (Night Watch) is directing. Rumour had it that Trent Reznor would be in charge of the score and even have a cameo, but he has unfortunately denied this.
Hits theatres June 21 2012.
NURSE 3D
Synopsis: By day Abby Russell is a dedicated nurse, someone you wouldn’t hesitate to trust your life with. But by night, her real work begins…using her smoldering sexuality she lures cheating men to their brutal deaths and exposes them for who they really are. When a younger nurse starts to suspect Abby's actions and compromises her master plan, Abby must find a way to outsmart her long enough to bring the cheater you’d least expect to justice.
Paz de la Huerta plays a nurse who cares for patients by day, but spends her nights 'targeting and punishing' evil men. Kinda sounds like a female Dexter to me.
Also stars Katrina Bowden, Judd Nelson & Boris Kodjoe. Set for release some time in 2012.
THE BRIAR LAKE MURDERS
Synopsis: A group of rude and insensitive city kids take a weekend vacation to Briar Lake, a picturesque town overlooking a beautiful lake, which to most outsiders would appear to be a peaceful small town. Having zero respect for anyone outside of their group, they are confronted by the hostile and eccentric residents. Following a bizarre experience in the town's diner, they quickly retreat to the protection of their borrowed vacation lake house, where they plan to let loose and celebrate their weekend out of the city. After an unexpected visit from the local police, the long weekend is cut short. Two of the locals have been brutally murdered, and this group of "outsiders" become the prime suspects. When the string of murders spins out of control, the group must come together to unravel Briar Lake's sordid past and uncover the hidden secrets. A vacation is always fun until you die!
Directed by David R. Ellis, this movie is set for an October 5 2012 release. THE BRIAR LAKE MURDERS stars Sara Paxton, Jonathan Jackson, Ivana Milicevic & James Remar.
RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION
Synopsis: Alice fights alongside a resistance movement in the continuing battle against the Umbrella Corporation and the undead.
Not really a huge fan of the RE movies, but as far as videogame adaptations go you could do a lot worse. Milla Jovovich, Michelle Rodriguez, Sienna Guillory & Bingbing Li star. Set for a September 14 2012 release.
> Directed by David R. Ellis, this movie is set for an October 5 2012 release. The only credited cast I can find so far is Sara Paxton and Josie Davis
